 Whittle Family Highlands Retreat

The retreat was built during 1883 with timely modern upgrades, and several additions. The house has been professionally maintained.

Many guests have experienced a kind of regression to a less complicated time dedicated to dreams and wonderment.  It’s more like a sensory overload:  the aroma of the burning firewood, the mountain flora, the gentle swaying of the surrounding trees from a never ending fresh mountain breeze, the sound of water trickling through the brook located on the lower grounds, the songs of birds seldom heard in the flatlands of the Piedmont.

All of this, and only a 10 minute walk to Main St., Highlands.

 Hill House Estate

The Hill House was built by Frank Harrison Hill, son of Stanhope W. Hill, Highlands' first mayor. Built in the mid-1800's it served as a store and the U.S. Post Office. From the 1840's until about 1880 (about the time Highlands was established) Horse Cove was a popular resort community with a hotel and horse racing track.

The house is nestled in scenic Horse Cove, just minutes east of downtown Highlands. A Victorian farmhouse with spectactular view and rustic elegance for weddings and soirees!
